As this fellowship is open only to individuals affiliated with Harvard, you will need your Harvard ID for the above application link. If you do not have a Harvard ID, please email or call the Film Study Center at least one week in advance of the deadline.

Applications will include the following materials:

  • A 2-3 page written treatment of the project, which includes a statement of purpose, a production and/or post-production schedule, and a summary of its theoretical orientation, including its relationship to the applicant's previous and prospective research (file size less than 100 Mb.)
  • A detailed, itemized budget, detailing alternative or additional possible sources of financing.
  • An explicit, itemized description of what FSC equipment or facilities use is requested, and the anticipated time frame for such use. View summary of equipment and facilities. The anticipated time frame for shooting and editing, etc. should be broken down by semesters (e.g. Summer 2010, Fall 2010, January break 2011, Spring 2011, and Summer 2011.) If you can be even more specific with your planned equipment usage, such as exact shooting dates, please include that information.
  • The applicant's curriculum vitae.
  • Two copies of a ten-minute example of the applicant's previous work in film, video, photography, or sound, preferably on DVD, DVCAM, VHS, or CD. It can be one solid ten-minute stretch, or a couple of smaller blocks of time adding up to ten. If you submit a longer work, include a note directing us when to start (at 15 minutes in, etc.) This is a critical part of your application, so pick the ten most compelling, exemplary minutes from your best work. This is to be submitted in person or by mail to our box in the office at 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, MA 02138.
  • One signed and sealed letter of recommendation (for all applicants other than Harvard faculty) to be submitted in person or by mail to the address above. In the case of graduate students, this should be from the applicant's advisor.
  • A university transcript of their graduate studies (for graduate student applicants only) to be submitted in person or by mail to the address above.
